My birthday was in June. I turned twenty and received gift cards as a present because my mum knows that for the $50 she could have spent on me, she would have purchased one item...and I'd use the $50 to purchase 10!
And that's exactly what I did!
The huge bonus to having a birthday that falls around this time of year is the mid-year sales - and not to toot my own horn here or anything, but I know where all the best bargains are.
I have a huge problem with paying full price for anything, because, let's be honest.. full price is cost price, plus an average of 75% added on top.
You'll notice I hardly ever by brand name clothing..In many cases I just believe they're not worth the price. Especially when a lot of fashions are just in for a season. By avoiding brand name clothing, I save A LOT of money. Yes, big brands have gotten where they are for a reason, and yes, you pay more for better quality etc, etc.. I know all this!! BUT, sometimes, all a brand name is, is a shirt imported from China for $3, with the words "BILLABONG" printed across it. (Also take note that I said "brand name", not designers... Chanel, Dior etc are a completely different story... and no, currently in my life I would never own anything that expensive anyway).
Another thing you may notice though, is that I don't often buy insanely fashionable pieces.. I buy things that I know I can work with for at least 2 years and that can work with things I already own.
My philosophy is, that I'm a size 12... my clothes range from a size 10-14 and even if I ever became an 8, things would still fit. I'm already 20...I'm going to be this size for a long time, so most things I buy are useful to me for a long period of time. Especially shoes.. I've been a size 8 since year 8. I still have a pair of Nikes that I got in year 9 (that was in 2007..!)
Anyway...
Where I spent my b'day money:
- Supre factory outlet
- Tempt (closing down sale... 50% off already 50% off..! what?!)
- Cotton On
- Cotton On Body
- Diva
- And a few other random places
I will get a few photos of some things and post them on here a little later. But some of my favourite finds:
- A staple black long sleeved leotard from Supre - $3.75
- V neck coloured shirts from Supre - $2.50 each (I live in these...I have pink, purple, blue, yellow, white and cream!)
- Patterned pants from Supre - $7.50
- Purple blazer from supre $7.50
- Ankle boots from Cotton On - $5.00
- Yellow statement necklace from Diva - $3
(There is A LOT more, but these were some of my faves)
So pretty much, I could make many outfits from the above finds...
Day time: V neck shirt, patterned pants and boots = $15 for whole outfit.
Night time: Patterned pants, leotard, blazer, necklace and boots = $21.75 for the whole outfit
So it's pretty funny when I go out with male friends... and their shirt alone cost more than my whole outfit from head to toe...and I'm the girl!
Never pay full price...
Photos of some of my amazing finds will be posted soon x

Welcome x
Good morning...well...afternoon - almost. It's 11:50am, so let's just go with morning!
I felt it is necessary to begin with explaining what this blog is/will be all about.
Starting this blog has been something I have wanted to do for a while. I know blogs are usually made for the purpose of gaining a cult following etc, but this blog is really mainly just made for myself. Sure, having people read it would be amazing, but it's not the prime purpose.
I am nineteen (twenty in two weeks if you want to get technical). Ever since I was about eight I would always make pretend magazines. I'd make the entire thing. I'd design the cover, design the layout of all the pages, write the articles on "celebrities" (All of which I made up), fashion, boys, advice etc. As I got older, around twelve, I still had this passion for creating magazines. I got a laptop at this age and discovered Microsoft Power Point. I started taking paparazzi style photos of my younger sister and her friends and also fashion model type shots. So now, as well as the graphic designer, writer and editor of my magazines, I was also the stylist and photographer - I was running the entire show on my little home made hobby. My first computer made magazine was over 70 pages long. As I grew older, I stopped with this hobby as I was getting too old to play pretend and also school and having fun took up a lot of my time.
Today, I am at university, doing a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Media.
This blog has been created for so many reasons.
- I have a passion for writing
- I love taking photos
- I'm at uni, I work 1-3 days a week, therefore make peanuts. But I'm happy and still have fun.
- I'm not very into fashion...I believe in outfits that look good for you, your body shape and what you love...not what everyone else tells you to love.
- I want to show that you can look good, without spending $100+ and without needing brand names. (dont get me wrong, brand names are great, fashion is great etc, but thats just beyond the point of this blog).
- Tips on living el cheapo.
- I want to show that bargains are around, you just have to know where to look!
- I want to share things, not just my material items, but aspects of my life on this blog too.
So I'm hoping by now, you have realised this blog doesn't exactly live up to its url expectations (my lavish life)...it isn't in fact about some billionaire living it up...Yes, the name is ironic, but I do believe being rich and feeling lavish doesn't just stem from money. There's a saying "Some people are so poor, all they have is money." And that's what this is all about.
Don't get me wrong though... I do plan on having a lot of money one day; you'll probably figure that out when I start posting more about my life.
That will do for now.
